I was born in Edinburg, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley near Mexico. I graduated from high school in Carrollton, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. I earned BA, MA, and MDiv degress from Abilene Christian University and a PhD from the University of Notre Dame.
I taught history and theology in college and high schools in Dallas. I also owned a small construction company that specialized in fine carpentry and woodworking.
My wife, Sheri, and I live in Boerne, TX, in the Hill Country north of San Antonio. Sheri has a successful real estate business and has been name one of the top fifty realtors in the greater San Antonio area. I botained my real estate license in 2016 and I now work with her.
